Motherhood or Career
With Mother’s Day approaching, I was asked to write a Mother’s Day blog post. To set the tone, I thought I’d do a little research to see what Google had to say about it... “Mother's Day is an occasion which is celebrated in various parts of the world to express respect, honor, and love towards mothers. The day is an event to honor the contribution of mothers, acknowledge the efforts of maternal bonds and the role of mothers in our society.”...more than likely you will choose a Mother’s Day card that describes your mother in this way.
I also checked Websters for the meaning of “career”. It’s “an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person’s life and with opportunities for progress”.
As a child, getting married and having children was my dream; I loved babies and little people. I loved them then and I love them now. As school came to an end for me, I had to deal with the typical question of, “What are you going to do when you finish school?” Somehow telling people what I really wanted, sounded too mundane, so I fantasized about other “careers” but thankfully my “dream” became reality, and I did become a mom and now I’m a gramma, as well. My kids are a huge part of my life! Being a mom is hard work, it’s not for the weak hearted. It’s a 24/7 commitment.
Being a mom does not require training...or does it? Back in the day if you had questions about child training, you could read a book, ask your mom or someone who had experience. In today’s world, you can google for advice or read yet another blog or be part of a moms forum to get all the help and support you need.
Our children teach us important lessons. Your whole world changes, it’s not just about me anymore...we don’t choose how to spend our time or money anymore. We are forced to grow up and in some areas we’re growing up with them. With kids spread apart, we had a little of everything going on. Kids cause us to persevere, no matter what...or maybe that’s the only option. They motivated us to do more than we thought was possible...to make good decisions on health, time, management, productivity and most of all our God given value.
Definitely there were days where you felt like your cup was running over and yet other days where you felt like running and hiding for a while. These feelings, good or bad, all give purpose in life. Your whole life is raw and exposed to your kids...they know you. Nevertheless, motherhood is the single most important role any human will ever play in the life of another.
As my children married and moved out of our house, I contemplated getting a job, but what would that be when I didn’t have a “degree”? I did homeschool my kids for the most part, but that didn’t count to provide me with any credentials. A career usually involves education beyond high school, which I didn’t have.
At about this time, I was asked to help out with a work project at Pure Anada. I was pretty excited to have this opportunity, which led to becoming an employee in the manufacturing area with them. Pure Anada offers a wonderful work environment for me, for which I am very grateful. They produce quality clean cosmetics that are natural and affordable.
I personally have a minimal cosmetic routine, but here’s a list of some of my favorites. Revive Serum is great for moisturizing and hydrating before bedtime. My morning starts out with Marine Mineral for hydrating, followed with a Tinted Moisturizer, Liquid Foundation, a Pressed Eyeshadow, Pressed Blush and our famous Mascara. I love many more products than what I’ve listed. I could rant on about all the other products I love, but hey, check them out for yourself by visiting our Boutiques or online store!
Careers versus motherhood?... I still choose motherhood. I still get asked what I do...what do I say? I’m still a mom but I also have a job. Although I love my job and the wonderful people I work for and with, my first love is still being a stay at home mom…so when asked what I do, I say, “I’ve been a stay at home mom but when my kids moved on to adulthood, I started a job with Pure Anada.”
I believe my six kids have shaped me into the person I am today. They have helped mould me into the person that Google describes. I will always marvel that God entrusted me with ‘something’ that belongs to Him.
Cherish the privilege of being a mom, you’ll have the best friends for the rest of your life!
