It is becoming common knowledge, that ingesting highly processed, industrial seed oils can have a negative effect on our health. Seed oils (such as soy, corn and canola) are typically derived from GMO (genetically modified crops) and are extracted with high heat and petroleum-based solvents. Furthermore, chemicals are often added to refine, bleach and deodorize the final product. Typically, these types of seed oils are unstable, oxidize quickly and have an imbalanced omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. So many reasons to avoid them!
Pure Anada does include plant seed oils in our formulations: rosehip, grapeseed, pomegranate, and sunflower. However, there is a drastic difference between the oils we choose to use and those that are industrially processed and refined. We source oils that are wildcrafted or certified organic, expeller or cold pressed, and never deodorized or bleached with chemical solvents. Not only are they are high in oleic acid to prevent oxidation and rich in vital lipids, but high in vitamins and antioxidants that help to nourish and protect the skin’s natural barrier. When they are applied topically, high-quality seed oils can improve skin’s texture and moisture level, help with reducing redness and nourish dry skin. So many reasons to love them!
Another reason why we feel ingesting seed oils is much different than applying them topically, is how the body utilizes them. When you ingest seed oils, too much can lead to an imbalance of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids. This can trigger inflammation. However, when high-quality seed oils are applied topically, they remain on the skin’s surface and don’t enter the bloodstream. Instead, they act as a protective barrier on the skin, helping to retain moisture. There is no inflammatory response, just beautiful benefits!
