Eyebrows

Eyebrows. I think tutorials on eyebrows are my most requested. And I don't blame people at all for wanting to know more on how to fill them in! They are tricky little guys.

The video tutorial below gets into the nitty gritty of eyebrows. Colour to choose, how to fill them in, how to shape them, all the necessary info.

Of course, I am only filling in my own brows for this tutorial - and my brows are sparse and thin. So I require a full overhaul of my brows! For those of you with full brows but just need a little bit of filling in (for example, if you have just little bald patches, or need length), you could alter your method of brow application.

Choosing the Right Brow Colour:

For those with blonde/light coloured hair - I recommend using a shade or two deeper than your hair colour. If you match your hair colour, or if you naturally have light-coloured brows, it works better to deepen your brow colour so they are visible.

For dark haired beauties - I suggest keeping the colour similar to your hair colour (just slightly lighter or darker, depending on your preference).

I most definitely prefer to choose an ash-toned brow colour. Most people have a slight grey hue to their brows (like brow-grey), and I prefer to work with that ash tone. I feel it looks more natural than working against the grey. However, as usual, there are exceptions! For those who have a very warm undertone (to their hair or skin tone), that is when a more reddish brown suits the brows. Also, if you have dark skin - ash tones tend to look bluish on dark skinned lovelies. Otherwise, ash is the way to go! And, we offer both undertones of brow colour.

How to Shape Your Brows (above photo):

I am not going to get into how to wax/tweeze/sugar the brows to the perfect shape. This is more focused on how to get them to a good length, where to arch, and the inner "beginning" of the brow.

Where to start your brow: take a thin makeup brush, and point it straight up from your nostril or the dimple in your nostril - that is the starting point of your brow.

Where to arch your brow: take a thin makeup brush, and follow a line from your nostril through your outer iris (the coloured part of your eye) to where it meets with your brow - that is the perfect arch point.

Where to end your brow: take a thin makeup brush, and follow a line from your nostril, to the outer corner of your eye, to where it meets your brow (or where your brow would be) - that is how long to make your brow.

Other Brow Tips:

I like to work with how the brow hairs grow. So if a section of hairs grow upward, I use upward strokes with the brow colour. If they grow down or to the side, I use those strokes.

Keep the inner corners (the beginning of the brow) light and soft. Applying a heavy amount of colour to the start of the brow ends up looking very artificial. So apply the inner corners with leftover product on your brush, and don't start with the inner corners - work your way toward the start of the brow.

Use a brush with dense bristles, and ensure that the bristles aren't frayed. This will allow for more control and a cleaner look.

I love using a brow powder - loose powder or pressed powder. Using a brush is always easier than using a pencil (and this goes for eyeliner too!). And powder is so easy to control, make it look natural, but also to build the colour if you like more drama.

So, enjoy this brow tutorial video to see it in all its detailed glory!:
