How To: BLUSH

Have you ever struggled with your blush? Struggled to find the right colour, struggled to blend it, or even struggled to make it show up? Let me help you!

Blush brightens the complexion, so I highly recommend wearing it! Even just the slightest touch of colour on the cheeks can do wonders. Blush isn't outdated, as some might think! It is a wonderful product, when used properly and in moderation.

First of all, you need the right brush. I suggest our Deluxe Blush Brush (pictured below). You want to apply blush with a fluffy brush, not something too dense.

Application:

Dab your brush, a couple times, into the blush (either loose mineral powder or pressed mineral powder). I like to dab the brush at an angle, not right on the tip. Then sweep it onto the apples of your cheeks and blend back and up toward your ear. Blending is key! (isn't it always?!) If it goes on too vibrantly, simply wipe off any excess powder on your brush, then blend with the brush again (especially the edges).

And if it is being especially stubborn, take a flat top foundation brush (which is more dense than the blush brush), and blend over the blush in swirling motions. That should do the trick!

Choosing the shade for you:

When in doubt, go with pink! Some shy away from pink, but it is a lovely way to get a natural flush on the cheeks. You don't need to wear a bright shade, but a colour with a pink tint to it always brightens the skin!

If you have pale skin and blonde hair, try a light pink or a peachy coral shade (In pressed blush: think Sweet Pea, Dahlia, Fresh Mandarin. In loose mineral blush: Lotus, Peony).

Pale skin with dark hair: a bright/medium shade of pink, a medium coral or peach, or a tawny rose (Pressed blush: Dahlia, Strawberry Field, Fresh Mandarin, Tender Twig. Loose mineral blush: Lotus, Camellia, Zinnia, Azalea).

Medium skin with medium/dark hair: bright pinks, deep coral, deep tawny shades (Pressed blush: Strawberry Field, Forever Summer, Tender Twig, Dahlia, Day Lily. Loose mineral blush: Camellia, Zinnia, Marigold, Azalea).

Deep skin: bright shades of pink, deep plum, bronze (Pressed blush: Strawberry Field, Forever Summer, Day Lily, Lush Nectarine. Loose mineral blush: Zinnia, Marigold).

How to Make Blush Stay All Day:

So what if you struggle with keeping your blush ON all day? Yes, this CAN happen! First of all, I must say that it is VERY common for blush to fade. That happens with Pure Anada blush, and every other brand I have ever worked with! It is just something that happens. So... what I always recommend to clients is this: apply your blush as you would (or even a little more heavy-handed than you naturally feel you should), then wait. Finish the rest of your makeup look. IF your blush has faded, add another sweep of blush and you should be good to go!

If that little trick doesn't do it for you, let's address what you wear under your blush. You might need lotion, primer, liquid foundation, or all of them! Especially if you tend to use powder foundation (pressed or loose mineral powder), the blush might have a hard time sticking to that. So use a moisturizer underneath (for sure!), and possibly our Smooth Priming Serum. These will create a bit of a tacky surface to work with, even if you apply a powder foundation before blush.

You might need to switch over to a liquid foundation - either liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer. Again, these will offer a tacky surface for the blush to stick to. However, this can cause another issue - streaky blush. Just make sure it is well blended.

Which type of blush do you prefer? Do you go for loose mineral blush or prefer the simplicity of pressed blush?
